Through the national event “In the Darkness of Missing People – turn off the Lights for 5 Minutes” on Tuesday April 27, 2021 at 20:00, a network of Kosovo civil society organisations will mark the National Day of Missing People in Kosovo. The online event aims to emphasize the institutional unawarness towards the families of missing people and the missing people issue in general. In the Darkness of Missing People is one of few interventions on this day and seeks to emphasis the issue of missing people in the public discourse, but most importantly to empathise with the families of the missing people.
Through activities around the National Day of Missing Persons the network demands legal and moral responsibility from the Government of Kosovo to resolve the issue of missing people as well as from the Kosovar society. It is pivotal to hold up collective responsibility and continue remembering the missing people as they are part of our society and inevitably part of processes of dealing with the past and building peace.
Every year, on the same day, at the same time, together we will have the opportunity to collectively remember the missing persons and cultivate collective memory constructively.
The network of civil society organisations organising the activities consists of YIHR Kosovo, Kosovo Missing Persons Resource Center, Integra, Humanitarian Law Center Kosovo, forumZFD – Kosovo Program, KRCT – Kosova Rehabilitation Centre for Torture Victims and New Social Initiative.
